Biography
Sizwe Mbazima was born and grew up in Mpumalanga, Pienaar. He currently resides in Pretoria for both school and work. Mbazima is a self-taught visual artist who discovered it while pursuing his tertiary education in a field other than the art industry. Over the years, he has explored different art mediums and techniques, including sketching, painting, and sculpting, and he fell in love with drawing portraits with pencils. As a visual artist, his main focus is creating artwork over corresponding visuals on paper.
Mbazima's focus of style is shading. He aims to produce unique work with textured shade. The use of pencils (charcoal, graphite & HB) and paper is the main medium he is comfortable working with, which he excels in. Even though he also does a few painting works through the inspiration of artists, including Pablo Picasso's paintings and Roberto Burle Marx's use of patterns.
"Social norms, cultural and historical beliefs, and personal reflections on my journey mostly influence me. This could be influenced by certain emotions, music, and/or the environment. However, I don't limit myself to exploring other options within the art landscape, such as the impact of some theories (existentialism)".
